Bear is a sweet 2 years old toy poodle and his mum picked their home in London for their dog photography session. I always recommend choosing a location where the dog feels comfortable and safe, as that is when their most authentic expressions come out, and those are the ones we want to capture in the perfect portrait.
A dog’s own home can be a great location for some intimate shots capturing everyday life, and it’s also handy in the case of anxious or reactive dogs, who are comfortable around strangers or in public places. Bear doesn’t have a good recall, so an indoor photography session was the best option for him and his mum.
ABOUT BEAR'S DOG PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION
I arrived at the location early on a Saturday morning, meaning that Bear hadn’t had his first walk yet. He was obviously full of energy and ready to play and welcomed me with a waggy tail.
I let him calm down and have a look at my equipment while I talked to his mum and explore the house to find the best spots for his dog photography session.
Bear was intentioned to start the photoshoot in the garden, and we just followed him. Here is a photograph of a playful bear from the start of the session:
We then moved indoors and tested his posing skills by asking him to sit and stay here and there, with the aid of his favourite treats, of course! He proved himself to be an amazing poser, showing off his unique expressions so quickly it was hard to follow him!
After a few shots on soft furniture, his energy level rose again and we thought it was a great time to take out his favourite toys and snap some pictures of his playful side.
Towards the end of the session, tired and full of treats, he slowed down and allowed me to take some candid shots of his interactions with his mum, just before nearly falling asleep in her arms.

Bear is such a sweet, playful pup who definitely knows how to entertain his guests! You can follow his adventures on his Instagram Account.
